So, today is National Coffee Day. This morning, I went into the kitchen, arm automatically outstretched, hand reaching toward the trusty Mr. Coffee machine that usually holds hot liquid happiness inside.
Instead, the machine was open on top where the grounds go. It was empty where there should have been a carafe.
And the under cabinet lights were on….illuminating a cracked carafe with a note inside telling me not to use it.
(I have to laugh at all the different methods combined to make sure that I didn’t accidentally make coffee in a cracked carafe with my sleepy half closed eyes this morning).
Anyhoo…we could just replace the carafe. This machine has served us well for 5 years, but I already kind of wanted an excuse to get a new one, and losing the little level indicator ball wasn’t enough reason. It turns out that you can jiggle the machine and reasonably see how much water is in there. Now I have a bona fide excuse.
I really like the idea of a Chemex or Aeropress, but my husband starts the coffee when he gets up and takes his cup to go, and I get to wake up to a hot cup to deal with morning + wrangling two kids + school drop off.
What type/brand of coffee machine do you prefer?

We’re on our 2nd Kuerig..It’s perfect for us. My husband gets his one cup to go and when I get up, I make mine. Good luck!
Yes, Monday morning with NO coffee. I had to go get some to go after dropping my son off to school. Then I remembered my little Melitta plastic pour over cone. It is doing to do until we decide on which replacement to get. It makes a great cup of coffee…..but only one at a time, ugh :p
